Class Description: By the use of lectures, live demonstrations and a practical lab exercise planned for the optional second class, this two night mini-course will teach attendees how to effectively setup, configure, manage and secure a small home network. An opportunity will be provided for attendees to work on and configure their own equipment brought with a laptop to class on the second night.This course will focus on delivering practical tips that are equally of value to consultants, small business owners, and home users alike. It will include an interactive discussion of setting up a small network, either wired and wireless, with an emphasis on dymistifying LAN terminology, providing some protection against hostile Internet attacks, sharing resources such as printers, and Internet sharing techniques for multiple computers to share a single Internet connection. Targetted for: Home users, consultants, small business owners, and individuals wishing to better understand and be able to configure and problem solve their home network. Some prior knowledge of TCP/IP networking and navigating Windows would be helpful but not required. Prerequisite: None required. Some knowledge of networking would be helpful.
